Head of Engagement Academic & Research

The Head of Academic & Research Engagement will ensure the success of the existing collaboration Framework and the joint participation in project, while expanding actual partnership to a strategic level.

This role requires a deep understanding of academic research, HPC/Supercomputing, AI and Quantum applications, and the ability to translate infrastructure capabilities into scientific and societal impact. The candidate will act as the main contact between LuxProvide and the academic and research ecosystem, ensuring alignment on resource allocations, governance, performance management, and new collaborative opportunities.

Your role consists in:

Strategic Partnership Management

  • Serve as the primary contact for the LIH, LISER, LIST and the University of Luxembourg, under the existing collaboration Framework.
  • Be our point of contact with the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).
  • Ensure the governance model, roles, and responsibilities outlined in the Framework are executed effectively.
  • Monitor compliance with access policies, onboarding procedures, and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Facilitate performance management and reporting, tracking key KPIs (utilization rate, job efficiency, storage efficiency).

Joint project development and coordination

  • Oversee joint research projects (both existing and new), ensuring they meet timelines, budgets, quality, and alignment with scientific & societal impact objectives.
  • Ability to Coordinate across multiple disciplines represented by the national institutions, including but not limited to: AI/data science, HPC/supercomputing, Quantum, health/biomedicine, socio-economic, environment, space, etc.
  • Support researchers in preparing proposals, securing access, and maximizing scientific output on the LuxProvide research and other infrastructures.
  • Identify cross-institutional synergies and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Coordinate the implementation of training activities requiring access to LuxProvide research and other infrastructures by Luxembourg research institutions.

Research & Innovation Development

  • Support the transition from research to market-oriented outcomes, including technology transfer activities, in line with institutional missions and national strategy.
  • Facilitate co-development of research projects that leverage LuxProvide’s supercomputing, AI and Quantum infrastructure and expertise.
  • Identify external funding opportunities (EU Horizon, EuroHPC JU, FNR) and coordinate joint applications.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Maintain strong relationships with academic leadership, researchers, and technical SPOCs at each partner institution.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to research institutions on HPC/AI adoption, best practices, and resource optimization.
  • Represent LuxProvide at academic conferences, research forums, and joint governance boards.
  • Ensure continuous alignment between LuxProvide’s services and the strategic research roadmaps of its partners.

Profile :

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, Economics, or related fields.
  • 7+ years of experience in academic research management, research facilitation, HPC/AI engagement, or collaborative research projects.
  • Proven track record in managing research partnerships and coordinating multi-institutional projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HPC/AI infrastructures, scientific workflows, and data management.
  • Experience with EU/national funding programs and collaborative research proposals.
  • Excellent relationship-building, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Multilingual proficiency: fluency in English required; French and/or German desirable.

  • Familiarity with Luxembourg’s research ecosystem and its institutions (LIH, LISER, LIST and the University of Luxembourg ), including the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) and its programmes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset, with capacity to translate scientific needs into technical solutions.
  • Diplomatic, collaborative, and able to balance academic freedom with organizational strategy.
